About us
QUEER MEDIA is an LGBTQ+ cultural non-profit association based in Madrid. We exist so queer talent is seen, heard and supported — in galleries, on the radio, on screen and in classrooms.
Why we exist
Queer talent is not in short supply; what’s scarce is a stage to show it, be heard on, and grow from. Many LGBTQ+ artists, musicians and creators find the doors of the cultural circuit half-open — or shut outright. QUEER MEDIA exists to open them: we build the platforms we wish we’d found, and put them at the community’s service.
Our mission
We help LGBTQ+ artists, musicians and creators develop and share their work. We build safe spaces where the community can express itself and connect, and we use art to bring queer realities closer to society at large. In practice, that means four commitments:
- Visibility: in-person exhibitions, an online gallery, 24/7 radio and audiovisual work that put queer creativity in front of new audiences — inside and outside the community.
- Real opportunity: open calls, exhibition space, artwork sales that pay the people who create, and professional guidance for emerging artists.
- Alliances: partnerships with cultural and educational institutions, committed brands, and the international federations of the LGBTQ+ movement.
- Education: awareness workshops, audiovisual training for young people, and campaigns that foster respect for sexual and gender diversity.
Milestones
- 2026
The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office granted QUEER MEDIA’s official trademark registration.
- 2025
We held the first Queer Art exhibition at Madrid’s Sala Maruja Mallo (4–28 February) and took part in Hybrid Art Fair 2025. Our music label was born. Queer Art artist Roman Chekmarev’s “Ethereal Gaze” received the Studiolo Collection Award. Shangay magazine covered our radio, Queer Uno.
- 2024
We launched LGBTQ+ filmmaking workshops for young talent. Ableton joined as a partner on our music projects. We became members of ILGA World and ILGA-Europe, the largest international LGBTQ+ federations.
How we work
We are a small team of culture and media professionals, backed by a network of volunteers who make every exhibition, broadcast and workshop possible. The association is registered in Spain’s National Registry of Associations and is a member of ILGA World and ILGA-Europe.
We are funded by donations, sponsorships and sales through our gallery — and we account for what we do with every euro. You’ll find our registry data, funding sources and yearly activity report on the transparency page.
